Kenshi is a RTSARPG (Real-Time Strategy Action Role-playing Game), Developed by Lo-Fi Games. Kenshi takes place in the Far Far Far future, after an apocalyptic event, Kenshi allows complete control over the customization of your character along with their role in the world, Kenshi is an extremely difficult and rage bait-y game, anyone and anything is trying to kill you in some capacity. That strange looking creature over there? Yeah, that wants to kill you, some regular humans? Nope, cannibals and slave traders. Kenshi loves to rub in the fact that nowhere is safe, excluding a few areas that are considered “safe” until something comes for you, these “safezones” are spanned kilometres apart (and your character doesn’t move very fast), so good-luck reaching one before you’re either captured, eaten, just straight dead or bleeding out in the sand because you decided it was a good idea to hit the merchant with a stick. Kenshi’s environment hates you just as much as you hate it, it’s like an AI actively working against you, just to kill you and ruin your fun.
Similar to most RTS games, Kenshi has a wide spanning camera along with simple movement controls for the character or characters. Along your journey, you can recruit or rescue other characters to join your group and eventually create a town of your own design (if you even survive for THAT long).
Species types:
Hive: Otherwise known as Hivers, are a race of stick-like humanoids who are meant to collaborate under a collective mind, ruled by a Hive Queen and her Princes. Hivers are split into many subspecies with their own unique appearances.
Humans: There are two sub-races of human in Kenshi, Greenlanders, and Scorchlanders.
Greenlanders are a very common race to encounter, they’re pretty boring and normal, with no downsides or buffs.
Scorchlanders are similar to Greenlanders but are easily identified by their much darker skin colour, glowing eyes, and commonly have silvery coloured hair.
Shek: Shek are a race of bony, horned humanoids. Shek bodies are covered from head to toe in bony plating which serve as an excellent “natural armour”, Shek are significantly larger than other races making them a lot tougher and stronger than others.
Skeleton: Despite their name, they’re not actual skeletons. Skeleton are a race of sentient robots. There are many sub-races of Skeleton within Kenshi. Skeleton heal at an accelerated rate and bleed a lot slower as well. They don’t need food, water, or sleep to function and are immune to all weather effects. Skeletons are among the slowest species in Kenshi, tied with Sheks.

History (kinda):
The Holy Nation is a theocratic human state that controls a notable portion of the northwest lands of Kenshi. They are ruled by a “Phoenix” whom they believe to be a reincarnation of their first ruler. Their religion, Okranism, is based around the dualism of the Okran, Lord Of Light, and Narko, Demoness of Darkness. Holy Nation citizens are often interchangeably referred to as Okranites, though not all Okranites live within, or support The Holy Nation (e.g. Flotsam Ninjas).
They are a xenophobic, zealous, and luddite society that rejects science and technology, oppresses women, non-human races, and anyone who does not agree with their religious beliefs. Male humans sit atop their societal hierarchy, with no distinction made between Greenlanders or Scorchlanders. Passing patrols may heal injured human player characters, or provide food if starving.
United Cities:
The United Cities (A.K.A. ‘The Empire’ or ‘The Desert Empire’) is a feudalistic slaver society that controls large portions of land across the continent, most notably within The Great Desert and its surrounding regions as well as having a southern enclave encompassing Kenshi’s southwestern coastline. Ruled by Emperor Tengu, they are a highly corrupt empire and monetary worth is the prime measure of a person in their culture. So much so, that being poor and hungry can get you arrested. The drug Hashish is illegal, and the Samurai Guards are obsessed with purging it from their streets to such an extent that even the material used to produce it, Hemp, is also outlawed.
Slavery and serfdom are important pillars of their empire, providing food and material. Anti-slavery ideologies are considered extremist perspectives and treated as a form of terrorism. It is inferred that they currently engage in a low-intensity warfare with those who hold it. Another pillar is the Traders Guild, the guild brings their cities great wealth and prosperity. They have advanced technologies, higher quality equipment, and valuable luxuries imported from distant lands.
While they have signed a truce with the Shek Kingdom (as a result of Esata coming into power), simmering tensions between The Holy Nation and United Cities have broken out into open conflict in recent decades, with the settlements in Bast all set ablaze in the midst of the warfare.
Conclusion:
Kenshi is a game that is enjoyable, unless you suck. Most Kenshi players won’t make it past even the basic first steps to building a settlement, it’s just that hard. Everything wants to kill you.
Kenshi shouldn’t be lobbied in with other MMORPGs either, since Kenshi is entirely unique in its own ways. Kenshi is a game you should definitely give a shot if you have the time (and patience).
