Repo is my new favourite horror game, and I think it should be your favourite, too.
Before we get into the main thing, we will talk about where you will start and some game mechanics. When you first start up the game, you will, of course, be in a main menu, and you’ll have some nice calm music playing, and you’ll see a weird-looking truck driving and avoiding objects that will appear like another truck that crashed and some other things. You’ll have the options to host a game, join a game, play single-player, play a tutorial, go to your settings or quit
the game, but what we want to do is host a game, join a game, or play single-player, and there’s no difference between the three. Hosting just means you’re the one who will be in control of starting the game and inviting people to play, and joining will just be you joining if you get invited, and single player is, of course, you play by yourself. So now let’s talk about game mechanics like controls with moving around. Like every other game, WASD is your movement keybind. To jump, you use the spacebar to sprint, hold down shift and to crouch, hold ctrl. You can press Q on your keyboard to tumble, which is like a ragdoll thing, and you can use tumble to tumble launch. To tumble launch, you have to start sprinting, and while you’re sprinting, you need to jump. Then use Tumble, and you’ll launch yourself forward, and you can hit monsters and other players with this to ragdoll them, which means you can knock people off the map, and it is a funny mechanic. To pick up items, you need to hold left click/mb1.
Now, onto the game. When you start, you will spawn in the truck, and you have to hold down and click on the mail thing on the big screen in the truck to start the truck and head towards the first level. After holding the button down, you will start loading into one of these current levels at the time I’m writing this: Headman’s Manner, McJannek Station, or Swiftbroom Academy. While loading in, you can also see what map it’s gonna be before loading in because it will show your truck crashing into the map you will be in. Once you load in, you will spawn in the truck and see a cart that you can use to easily take items with you to the extraction points. So, to win a level, you need to meet the quota by extracting items for money, and different items have different amounts of money and different sizes and different amounts of durability before they break. For example, a diamond can be worth around 2000-3000 dollars and is small and can break really easily. But something like a goblet is only around 500-600 and doesn’t break easily, and can take a couple of hits before it breaks. Depending on the size of the item, it will, of course, be heavier, so ask your friends to help you with those big items. And you can use bigger items to ragdoll monsters, so the bigger the monster, the bigger the item you need. But there are weapons that you can use to kill monsters, so you would only need to do this if you really need to. Some items also have special interactions when you pick them up. For example, if you find a music box and pick it up, the music box will open up and start playing music and force you to spin around in a circle, making it harder to collect. Another one is the clown item, and when you press its nose, its head will spin around, and it will laugh while saying don’t touch my nose if you press the nose three times, the head of the clown will keep spinning around while saying, “you shouldn’t have done” that multiple times before exploding. Now it’s time to get back on track with the game. After gathering all of the items and surviving through the monsters, you can get the cart and go back to where the truck is. When you’re there, if you look around the sides of the truck, you should see an area with a screen with a sad face and yellow-like lights shining on the floor in that area with a money counter above the sad face. That is the extraction point, so now grab your cart and put it on the floor of the extraction point.
There are tiny walls to show you the area where you have to put the cart and other items you have collected that you couldn’t fit in the cart. After you do that, the sad face should go to a smiley face. If you have reached the quota after that, you will see a tick on the screen to show that you have done it, and there will be a 3-second countdown until a square thing falls down and starts extracting all of the items. (btw you can use the extraction point to revive your dead teammates by putting their heads in the extraction area) Now go back into your truck and press and hold the same button you did to start it. CONGRATS, YOU FINISHED YOUR FIRST LEVEL!!!!!!! (but if you happen to die, you will be put in a junkyard and be forced to FIGHT your friends to the death. Well, only if you have friends to play with; if you don’t have anyone playing with you, you’ll just fall to your death.)
Now, you will be sent to the shop where you can buy weapons, upgrades and gear to defend and help yourself and your friends collect items. Now, you have to make sure to spend your money wisely on items you need…… JUST KIDDING, YOU CAN SPEND IT ON WHATEVER YOU WANT!!!!! But I would say the best items to start off with buying for you noobies are one grenade and two sprint upgrades, but if you are good at the game, then you should know what you want to buy. So, to even buy the items, you need to look around to find another extraction point, but instead of giving you money, it will take your money, depending on how much the items you put in cost. And every item has a different amount of money, of course, so grenades will ALWAYS be 3k, but sprint upgrades and other upgrade items will increase in price the more money you have, but they should be at 2k, and after the first level, you should have over 8k, dollary doos. So grab the items that you want and put them in the extraction point. Then press the red button next to it, and it will extract the items you want, but it won’t work if you go over the amount of money you have. After buying your items, go back to your truck and start it by starting it how you’ve started it before: the button below the big screen in the truck (I’m just gonna call it the start button so whenever I say start button, that’s what I mean.) Now, before you go to the next level, you will be in the truck after starting it, and you can now equip your upgrades by grabbing them and pressing E on your keyboard and grabbing the items you bought. You can store the items that you brought by pressing 1, 2, or 3 on your keyboard, but you can’t do this with items that you find in the levels, only the ones that you buy in the store.
Now, after getting ready for the next level, you need to, of course, press and hold the start button. So, after doing that, you will load into the next level, which could be one of the three levels that are out right now. After you load in, you simply have to do the same thing as last time: grab the cart, put items in the cart, after getting the money needed, make sure you don’t die from the monsters, then bring the cart back to the extraction point at the truck, put the cart in then wait for it to be extracted. BUT this time you have to do TWO extractions, but it’s not as easy as using the extraction near the truck, no, no, no. In the map, there will be ANOTHER extraction point, and you will have to find it because the one at the truck is gone. If you are close to it, you will hear a beep sound, so follow that sound and BAM you find it. After finding it, you will have to press the red button on it to activate it, so after doing that, you can now get the cart and put items in it, then go to the extraction point and put the cart in. If you can’t remember where the extraction point is, then hold the tab to open a screen that shows the area around you. You can use this to not only find the extraction point by following the white dots to the extraction point, but you can also use it to see items that you missed. If you have looked at an item but didn’t see it because you’re blind, or you were gonna go back and grab it but couldn’t find it. There should be a yellow dot, and depending on the size, the dot will be bigger the bigger the item is. If you’re playing with friends and they have died, you will see a red dot on the map. Soooooooooooooooo after getting more items, and after getting the money that you need. Put the cart in the extraction point, and after it has been extracted, WE HAVE TO HURRY. Since you are not at the truck after extracting, you will have to make your way back, but if you killed any monsters while collecting items, they would respawn, and even if you kill them again, they will instantly respawn, so you have to be careful while making your way back oh, and I forgot to mention that you can hide under tables and other things to hide from the monsters but some can hear you so be quiet after making it back to the ship from hell. Start the ship to go to the shop and buy items. Now you should have over 20k money, and I’m calling it money because I don’t know what they call it in the repo world. So now you should get strength upgrades to carry bigger items more easily, so after buying what you want, you, of course, start the ship to head to your next journey. Well, it’s more like the next level. Like every other time, you will go to one of the three maps, and this will happen every time, where you go to one of the three maps. Now, you will still have two extraction points, but after every two levels, you will have to do another extraction, so the next level, you’ll have three, and it doesn’t have the maximum amount you can have, I think.
Now, I will talk about some of the monsters.
First, we have the shadow child.
The shadow child has a slender man like body, and the way it works is that it will randomly spawn near you, and if you have to make sure not to look at it for too long if you do while you look at it, it will start growing arms on its back, and after they grow to a certain point, they will extend and grab you. Pulling you towards it, then it disappears. So, it’s easy to deal with because you just have to not look at it. Oh, and they don’t move after spawning. They will just teleport around, so it’s not hard just to look the other way and forget about it until you see it again.
Bangers: So, the bangers look like skeleton heads with small legs and a piece of dynamite sticking out of them.
They usually come in groups of around three. So, what the bangers will do is, when they see you, they will make a noise, then the dynamite on their head will ignite, and they will keep chasing after you and will explode after a bit, but since they are so small, you can just pick them up and keep throwing them away until they go KABOOOOOOOOM.
Gnomes. So, they, of course, look like gnomes and will usually like the bangers.
Spawns in groups of around 4. So, what the gnomes will do when seeing you is they will start chasing after you, but if there is an item, they will instead attack the item until it breaks, which can be really annoying. But like the bangers, they are so small that you can just pick them up and throw them ANNNNNNNNNND since they are gnomes, they will easily break and die.
Another one is a cute little duck who, when it sees you, will follow you around for a bit like a little pet.
But make sure you don’t harm it in any way or try to pick it up because if you do, its beak will turn into a long beak with a bunch of teeth in it and start flying and chasing after you while chomping. Now, it’s kind of hard to kill the duck because you can’t pick them up without multiple strength upgrades, but the best way to kill it is to buy a stun trap, which looks like a bear trap, and when it sees you, it will try it’s best to be right in front of where you’re looking so if you place the trap the walk over to it and look at the trap, the duck will walk into it and will most likely die.
Another monster is a clown. No, not the item; there is a monster that is a clown. It has big shoes and an angler fish thing on its head.
It has a smile with a bunch of teeth in its mouth. It has a big body, but its arms and legs are small, while its feet and body are big. If you get too close to it, it will start using the angler fish thingy on its head as a laser beam, so duck down or jump over it to avoid the beam. And if you are way too close, AND I MEAN WAY too close to it, he will kick you with its big feet. Now, it’s hard to kill this guy, but if you have a gun, a grenade, or something like that, you should be able to kill them.
The 2nd last one I’m going to talk about is the huntsman, who is an old grandpa walking around with a shotgun.
Luckily, he is blind, but he is still dangerous because if he hears you, he will shoot you with the shogun and instantly kill you, and if he catches you off guard, you will most likely die. He is even more dangerous when playing with friends because…. I mean, like, you and your friends are going to be yapping a lot, then BAM, one of you are dead. So, the best way to kill him is to use a grenade, but since he can hear you REALLY WELL. First, go behind a wall where the huntsman can’t see you, then equip the grenade, activate it, and throw it at him. But you will need two grenades to kill him, so good luck.
The last one I’ll talk about is the headman, and you may be thinking. “Wait a minute, isn’t there a map called headman manner?” And yes, you are correct, that manner is the head mans. Anyways, onto the monster. So, the head man is a big old man’s head that floats around, and I’d say that he is the most dangerous monster.
So, he floats around, and that’s really it, but if he sees you, he will start chasing after you, and he is fast, and if he catches up to you, he will start using them big teeth to try and eat you by going chomp chomp chomp. And that deals 50 damage to each chomp, so he is fast and does a lot of damage. So just make sure you run as fast as you can to somewhere you can hide.
So why is this game so good? Well, when you mix having to collect items and run from monsters, plus having two or more friends, it can be chaotic and funny. Just talking about it doesn’t explain how the game can be fun that well, but I’ve made a video to show you how amazing it is. But if you play by yourself, it can be scary. So just don’t play by yourself.
Currently, there is an open beta for the newest update at the time I am writing this, which adds a few new mechanics and a new map with new items. I’ll talk about some of the new things. So the new map is a cool museum with special items that you can only find in it. One of the new items is a boombox, and when you pick it up, it will play music while forcing you to move your head up and down. Another is a blender with money in it, and what it does is when you pick it up, it will start blending the money inside the blender, so the longer you hold it, the more money it will lose. They add a new gun that you can buy, and when you shoot it, you will shoot out a pulse of energy that, when it hits something, will shockwave stuff in a small area around it away. They are also currently making a new turret to add to the cart to defend themselves against monsters, which is cool. One of the turrets is a cannon, while the other is a laser beam.
Just talking about it doesn’t explain how the game can be fun that well, but I’ve made a video to show you how amazing the game is.
